Gresham Wagner Achieves First Stars of Karting National Victory
SHAWANO, WI (July 21, 2008) - Gresham Wagner earned his first Stars of Karting pole and victory in impressive fashion in the series third Eastern National event.
The MRP-Birel AMERICA driver found the combination that netted him the Pole in qualifying and a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in his three heat races, which set him up for starting the final in P1. The result was a win in Final #1 and a 3rd place finish in Final #2 after leading much of the race. Gresham was on the brink of achieving a double header with a win in Final #2, but last lap, last corner contact dropped him to 3rd.
"We had an awesome weekend," said Kevin Wagner, Gresham's father. "MRP and the entire Birel team have been instrumental in Gresham's growth as a driver and in his weekend results. Tim and Chris Lobaugh are the best chassis tuners in the business. To lead every lap except for a handful over an entire weekend event is a testament to their attention to detail and drive for success."
Gresham went into the weekend third in the Eastern National Points and his results from the weekend lifted him to second heading into the National Finals, to be held on October 10-12 in Las Vegas.
"Gresham was really looking forward to the event at Shawano as it was one of his favorite tracks from last year. Who would have imagined the success and elation that were to come from the event," added Wagner.
Additionally, based on the finishes for the weekend, Gresham was the top qualifier for the opportunity to represent the Stars of Karting in London, England at the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow Championship, September 12-14.
Gresham would like to thank his supporters, MRP Motorsport / Birel, Zamp Helmets and Fleming Motorsports.
